Caitlin's Launch Guide
Dust til Dawn · Launch guide

Hi Caitlin. Here's your business, start to first client.

Everything in one place: the plan, how your new website works, and a to-do list to get you booked. Tick things off as you go; Garrett sees your progress too.

The plan

A one-person cleaning business people trust and rebook.

Big franchises send whoever is free that day. You're the opposite: the same person every visit, honest prices up front, and nobody pays until the job is done. That's the whole pitch, and it's a strong one.

Your starting prices

You can change any of these yourself from the admin page, any time.

Studio or 1 bed, 1 bath$130$180$117
2 bed, 1 bath$145$220$130
3 bed, 2 bath (about 1,700 sq ft)$220$330$198
4 bed, 3 bath (about 2,200 sq ft)$300$450$270

Move-in/move-out cleans are about 1.75× a standard clean. Extras like inside the oven or fridge are $35 each. Recurring plans start with one deep clean.

What a full calendar looks like. Two cleans a day, five days a week, at an average of about $160 is roughly $1,600 a week, or about $75,000 a year before taxes and costs. About 20 clients on an every-two-weeks plan fills that calendar on its own. That's the goal: get to 20 regulars.

This is an illustration, not a forecast. Card fees are about 3% per charge; set aside 25–30% of what you earn for taxes.

Your website

It quotes, books and gets you paid while you're cleaning.

Most cleaners make people call for a quote. Your site shows the exact price in under a minute and lets them book a real open time, so you're not stuck on the phone between jobs.

What a client does

  1. Enters their ZIP, bedrooms and bathrooms and sees the price instantly.
  2. Picks a day and time from your actual calendar.
  3. Adds their address, how you'll get in, and any notes.
  4. Saves a card with Stripe. Nothing is charged yet.
  5. Gets a confirmation email with a calendar invite, and a reminder the day before.

What you do

  1. Get an email: "New booking", with all the details. It's also on your Google Calendar.
  2. Do the clean.
  3. Open your admin page and tap Charge. Adjust the amount if the job changed.
  4. The client gets a receipt with a link to tip you and leave a review.
  5. For regulars, the next visit is booked automatically.

Everything it does

Instant pricing

Price by bedrooms, bathrooms, size, pets and extras. You set every number.

Real availability

Only shows times you're free. Anything on your Google Calendar blocks that time, so you can book a dentist appointment and the site knows.

Travel fee, automatically

Free within 30 minutes of you; $15 up to 45 minutes; $30 up to an hour. Further than that asks you for a custom quote.

Card on file

Stripe keeps the card safe. You never see or handle card numbers. Money lands in your bank account in about two business days.

Cancellations handled

Clients can cancel free up to 24 hours before. Later than that, a 50% fee is charged automatically. Lockouts can be charged from admin.

Recurring plans

Weekly, every two weeks or every four weeks, at a discount. The site keeps the next visit booked so you don't have to.

Tips and reviews

Every receipt has a one-tap tip button and asks for a Google review.

Your admin page

On your phone: today's jobs, who to charge, addresses with map links, private notes per client, and your prices and hours.

Founding-client offer

$25 off the first clean for your first 20 clients. A reason to try someone new.

Your routine, in four lines

  • Morning: check your Google Calendar. Addresses and door codes are in each event.
  • After each clean: admin → tap the job → Charge. Ten seconds.
  • Day off or vacation: add it to your Google Calendar. Nobody can book it.
  • Same afternoon: text the client your Google review link (see the to-do list).
To-do list

Get set up, then get found.

Roughly in order. The first group gets the site live; everything after that brings in clients. Items marked "Garrett" are his to do.

Business number

A free Google Voice number that spells your name.

Google Voice gives you a second number that rings and texts on your existing phone through its app. It keeps your personal number private, lets you turn off work calls after hours, and it's free for a personal Google account.

When you pick a number, you can search by area code (720 or 303) and digits. Letters map to phone keys, so try searching for these:

DUST3878e.g. 720-555-DUST
DAWN3296e.g. 303-555-DAWN
CLEAN25326e.g. 720-55-CLEAN
TIDY8439e.g. 720-555-TIDY

Which numbers are free is luck of the draw, so a word in the last four digits is the realistic goal. If none come up, any easy-to-remember 720 number is fine. Once you have it, send it to Garrett so the website, emails and Google profile all show the same number.

Getting clients

Where your first 20 regulars will come from.

Local cleaning is won on Google, on word of mouth, and in the neighborhoods you already drive through. In rough order of payoff:

Google Business Profile

The single biggest source of local cleaning clients. When someone searches "house cleaner near me", this is what shows up. Post a photo every week.

Free

Reviews, reviews, reviews

Many people won't book a business with fewer than 20 reviews. Ask every happy client the same day, by text, with the direct link. Reply to every review by name.

Free

Nextdoor

Make a free business page and ask clients to "recommend" you there. Neighbors trust neighbors, and one recommendation can bring a whole street.

Free

Give $25, get $25

Every client who sends a friend gets $25 off their next clean, and so does the friend. Hand out a small card after the first visit. Take it off the price when you charge.

Costs only when it works

Door hangers on your best streets

After a clean, hang 20–30 on nearby doors: "I just cleaned a home on your street." Same neighborhood means no travel fee and tight scheduling.

About $60 for 500

Realtors and property managers

Move-out cleans are bigger jobs, and agents need someone reliable on short notice. Introduce yourself to 5–10 local agents with a card and your booking link.

Free

Airbnb hosts

Hosts need fast, dependable turnovers, often weekly. Search local host Facebook groups. Worth it if you like predictable, shorter jobs.

Free

Neighborhood Facebook groups

Many Denver groups allow business posts on set days. Introduce yourself with a photo and your story, not an ad. Follow each group's rules.

Free

Car magnet

Your car is parked in front of client homes for hours. A simple magnet with the name and website works while you do.

About $30–50

Gift certificates

A clean is a great gift for new parents, Mother's Day and the holidays. Make a simple one to text or print, and ask Garrett to add online gift cards later.

Free

Listing sites

Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing Places: same name, phone and website everywhere. It helps Google trust you. Thumbtack and Angi charge per lead, so use them only to fill gaps early.

Free to list

Turn one-timers into regulars

At the end of every one-time clean: "Want me to keep this time every two weeks? You'd save 10%." It's the easiest yes you'll get.

Questions

Things you might be wondering.

How do I get paid?

When you tap Charge after a clean, Stripe charges the client's saved card. The money arrives in your bank account about two business days later. Stripe keeps about 3% as its fee. You can see everything in the Stripe app.

What if a card is declined?

The admin page shows it as failed. If the bank just wants the client to confirm, the site emails them a link to approve the payment and updates when they do. Otherwise, text them; they can pay another way, and you mark it "paid another way" in admin.

What if a client cancels last minute or I'm locked out?

If they cancel through their link within 24 hours, the 50% fee is charged automatically. If you're locked out, open the job in admin and tap "Locked out / no-show"; it charges the fee you set. You can always waive a fee by entering $0.

Can I still take clients who call or text me?

Yes. The easiest way is to send them your booking link so they pick a time and save a card. If they'd rather not, just put them on your Google Calendar and they can pay you however you agree.

Can I change my prices or hours?

Any time, from the "Prices & hours" page in admin. The website updates immediately. Existing bookings keep the price they were quoted.

What does it cost to run?

The website costs nothing to run beyond about $15 a year for the domain. Stripe takes about 3% of each charge. Insurance, once you have it, is roughly $40–80 a month.

Do I need an LLC?

Not to start. You can work as a sole proprietor under a registered trade name. An LLC (about $50 to file in Colorado) separates your personal assets from the business and is worth doing once you're busy. Ask an accountant when you get there.
